Giant Sinkholes and Volcanic Craters of Mount Gambier SA
Ep 46 | Motorcycle Travel South Australia
Picking up where we left off in South Australia, today we explore Mt Gambier! A small city of about 30,000 people in south east of the state just 17km from the Victorian border. We were surprised to find out that it's actually the second biggest city in SA after Adelaide.
Mount Gambier is famous for being full of holes, namely its many impressive volcanic craters and massive sinkholes. The city is located on the slopes of the dormant Mount Gambier volcano which erupted thousands of years ago to create the unique landscape.
In this vlog we switch things up and ride two-up to the famous Blue Lake and its baby brother the Little Blue Lake. We hike around Mount Schank, a 100m high dormant volcano surrounded by a vast flat landscape, and we visit the beautiful Sunken Cave Garden inside the Umpherston Sinkhole.
